Description
This is a physical fun batik class to draw a Batik scarf at Jadi Batek Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Never done before, no worry. Our friendly instructors will guide you all the way.
First, you sketch your design with a pencil and then you will get to experience to use a special tool “canting” to apply wax on the cloth.
Next is to apply dyes. You can choose your preferred colours from a range of beautiful dyes we have prepared for you. You can even mix them to create custom colours.
Indulge in your creativity experiment with burst of colours and voila your own batik masterpiece is now complete.
After that, we will help you to fix the color, remove the wax and sew the edge. It will take 3 -5 days and you need to come back again to pick up. Otherwise, delivery service can be arranged with extra charge.
Class is available everyday at 10am.

What can I expect during the batik class?
At Jadi Batek, you will experience the traditional art of Malaysian batik through a hands-on activity. Visitors can watch live batik-making demonstrations by our artisans, join a batik workshop, and shop handmade batik products all under one roof.
Depending on the class selected, participants may experience:
- Batik wax drawing (canting)
- Batik colouring
- Learning basic batik techniques

Is the class suitable for beginners?
Yes. Our batik classes are beginner-friendly and suitable for all skill levels, including first-timers.
Is the class suitable for children?
Yes. Children as young as 4 years old are welcome to join. As long as they are able to hold a pencil or paintbrush, they can participate in the activity. Younger children are recommended to join the colouring-only activity, while older children and adults may enjoy the drawing & colouring experience.
What is the difference between “Colouring Only” and “Drawing + Colouring”?
Colouring Only
- Pre-waxed design is provided
- Participants focus on colouring the batik
Drawing + Colouring
- Participants learn to use the canting tool with hot wax
- Draw their own simple design
- Continue with colouring afterwards
We usually recommend the Drawing + Colouring activity for guests who would like to experience the full batik-making process.
If you have limited time or prefer a simpler activity, the Colouring Only option is recommended.
Do I need to make a booking?
Yes, advance booking is highly recommended to secure your preferred date and time slot.
Do you accept walk-ins?
Walk-ins are subject to availability. During weekends, public holidays, and peak tourist seasons, classes may be fully booked.

Rescheduling requests are subject to availability. Please contact us as early as possible for assistance.
What happens if I arrive late?
Late arrivals may result in shorter workshop time, as sessions follow scheduled time slots.
Can I bring home my batik artwork on the same day?
Yes, participants may bring home their artwork immediately after the session.
For Small Batik and Standard Batik activities, wax removal and washing are optional. If you choose not to remove the wax, you may bring home your artwork on the same day.
Please note that Mini Batik activities do not include wax removal service.
Selected activities such as Batik T-shirt, Scarf, Pareo, or artworks that require wax removal and washing may take approximately 1–3 working days for the finishing process.
Courier delivery can be arranged at an additional cost.
What is wax removal?
Wax removal is the process of removing the hot wax from the fabric using boiling water after colouring, revealing the final batik artwork.
Selected activities may include an optional wax removal service with additional charges.
